Amesbury, MA – The 34th Annual Meeting of the Amesbury Carriage Museum will be held on Monday, September 16 at Ristorante Molise in downtown Amesbury at 1 Market Square. Dr. DeWolfe will present her program – Women’s Work in the Mills: Lessons from our Industrial Past. This illustrated program will explore the nature of work life in the 19th-century New England textile mills with a particular emphasis on the experience of young women in this new industrial environment. DeWolfe will explore how this emerging industrial system shaped and defined nearby communities and will conclude with some thoughts on how the experience of women in the 19th century has meaning and relevance in our world today. “This program is extremely timely,” says John Mayer, ACM Executive Director, “Beth will show how the study of the past informs our sense of community today. We are delighted to have her on the program.”
