As part of our continuing effort to both build awareness of Amesbury’s many assets and boost the local economy, we were pleased to support production of the new brochure: The River Cities; Discover the Mighty Merrimack. You may have heard in local media, this comes as a result of the initiative led by Senator Kathleen O’Connor Ives and Haverhill Representative Brian Dempsey to increase tourism along the Merrimack River, from Haverhill to the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean.
We are very grateful to them for securing state funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism to produce the brochure and for continuing to advocate for additional funding to broaden the initiative’s scope to include new recreational opportunities along the river. As more plans become a reality, we will keep you informed of our collective progress.
To ensure Amesbury was well represented in The River Cities brochure for its beautiful waterfront parks, well-appointed marinas and rich maritime history, Amesbury Chamber of Commerce Executive Director arranged a boat ride up the Merrimack River to disclose the related information to a representative from North of Boston, the regional tourism council that coordinated submissions. With help from Chamber members Dan Healey and Bart Bailey, who graciously skippered our trip on his private boat, we set out to identify the many notable Amesbury landmarks and stops.
The brochure is a terrific snapshot of this end of the Merrimack River. We invite you to get reacquainted with Amesbury’s riverfront destinations and those of our neighbors by picking up a printed copy at your local Chamber of Commerce office or downloading an electronic copy from North of Boston.
